As a special education teacher, I have worked with many students who struggled with a reading difficulty such as dyslexia. I’ve seen their disappointment and frustration mount as their peers quickly mastered the skills they found so difficult. I’ve watched their self-confidence decline as their poor reading abilities held them back in other subjects.
And despite my best efforts as an educator and using the latest innovations in “research-based curriculum,” I was often unable to help them effectively.
I knew there had to be a better way.
And I found it in Phono-Graphix, a method built on the concept that the sounds in words are represented by sound pictures, and that these sound pictures can be easily decoded.
Phono-Graphix teaches the skills every child needs to read and spell—segmenting, blending, and phoneme manipulation. It teaches the true nature of the English written code, then lets the students apply the code themselves, treating children like the explorers they truly are. The system of error correction used in the method provides just the right amount of information to engage students in problem-solving and active learning.
There’s a lot of research that validates the effectiveness of Phono-Graphix. And when I started using it in my SPED classroom back in California, I was soon amazed to see my students gaining confidence and acquiring the skills necessary to read increasingly difficult texts.
I launched Peak Reading in the fall of 2019, and made reading instruction available online in March 2020. Teaching reading to students who find it challenging has become my passion. As a reading teacher and online reading tutor, I love seeing my students grow in confidence as they develop reading skills for life and discover a whole new world of written words.
Please give me a call or send me an email if you want to discuss how I can help your child learn the joy of reading.
